Rosie Percival and Ruth Friedlander created Martha Goes Green after deciding it would be a fun way to document and combine their growing recipe collection. The duo joined forces with photographer and friend Jessica Symonds and the project began in winter 2008.
After a year of writing, proofreading, tweaking recipes and countless photo shoots, the book was almost there. With some valuable contributions from illustrator Jessica Honey and writer Hazel Squair, Martha Goes Green was finally completed in March 2009.
Ruth's food obsession began while working in cafes and restaurants in New Zealand during her time studying Digital Media Design. She now works as a graphic designer in Melbourne and spends most of her free time in the kitchen with a glass of wine in one hand and wooden spoon in the other.
Rosie's ardor for cooking began in her teen years, while attending vegan potluck dinners in Hamilton, New Zealand. This introduced her to a world of delicious meatless food that inspired several of the recipes in MGG. She has a film degree and has worked as a video editor, vegetarian chef and bookseller. She has a micro-obsession with vintage aprons and baby animals.
Jessica has been behind the camera lens most of her life and has a Bachelor of Media Arts majoring in photography. Her expertise lies in commercial, beauty and food photography and she is currently working freelance in Melbourne. When not taking photos she can be found pottering around in her newly planted vegetable patch.
